Obituary of Vada B. Ellison

Vada Brown Ellison, daughter of late parents Jesse P. Brown and Arneader Howard Brown, was born April 14, 1933, in Littleton, North Carolina. Vada graduated from McIver High School in 1952. She moved to Philadelphia to further her education. She attended Temple University, where she received a certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Vada taught in a private nursery for nine years. She moved to New Jersey, where she attended nursing school and received a certificate of Psychiatric Nursing Aide. Vada also received a Human Service Technology certificate, and she worked at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital for 20 years before retiring in July 1993.

She met the love of her life, Thomas D. Ellison, in 1953 they were married in 1956. Three sons were born Michael, Anthony, and Edward to this union. Also to the marriage are two step-sons, Thomas Jr. Ellison and Dennis Ellison. In addition, she loved her two adopted sons, Luis Moore and Johnny Webb.

Vada had two extraordinary ladies whom she affectionately called her daughters, Dianna Hawkins and Miyoung Bartholomew, and five loving grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her three siblings proceeded her in death Claude Brown, Dempsey Brown, and Darie Dorsey.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted Husband of 66 years, Thomas, their sons Michael, his wife Michelle, Anthony and Edward, step-sons, Thomas Jr., and wife Linda and Dennis. Also, her loving grandchildren Kish Bolden, Michael Jr. Conover, wife Nia, Damian Conover, wife April,  Kyrstin Ellison, and Neolani. Great-grandchildren Imani, Duncan, Ciara, and Kaydence.  One Sister-in-Law Frances Eggleston, one Brother in Law Jimmy Dorsey, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday March 25, 2022 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at St. Simon Stock Parish Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ 08009. Mass 11:00AM. The family is requesting all in attendance please wear a mask. Interment will take place privately.
