Obituary of Charles P. O'Toole

Charles P O’Toole passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91 on February 26, 2022 in Sun City Center, Florida where he resided for the past 6 1/2 years. Prior to that he was a lifelong resident of New Jersey.

He was  a Catholic Irishman that was persistant and resilent.  He is survived by his loving wife, Joan O’Toole (née Kiernan); his 3 children Kathy LaCombe, Charles O'Toole (Kathy) and Beth Cattell (Richard). He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren Adam Cattell, Shannon Hood (Paul), Erin LaCombe, Brian LaCombe, and Kaitlin O'Toole. He misses meeting his first great grandson Leonard Hood by only a few months. He now unites in heaven with his beloved first wife Francis O’Toole (née Vaughan), his brother Tom and his parents Mary and Thomas.

Charlie lived a full life of adventures, fond memories traveling around the globe and many accomplishments. He was raised in Pennsauken NJ where he attended the Pennsauken public schools, he then went on to play Varsity football at Moorestown High School where he graduated in 1947. Throughout his years he Played semi-pro football and then attended the University of Pennsylvania-Wharton School and in 1949 was granted a football scholarship to the Drexel Institute of Technology, after which he became a Certified NJ High School Football Official. He went on to graduate Drexel with a Bachelor’s degree in 1954 and in 1963 received his Master of Business Administration from Drexel. He later went on to gain his Nursing Home Administrator's License by the State of NJ.

Charlie was a US Army veteran proudly serving our country from 1954-1956. From 1955-1956 he was selected for the Presidential Honor Guard in Washington D.C.

He has belonged to many organizations throughout his life including the Delaware Gardens Fire Company, Drexel Honor Society (Sigma Rho) and the Knights of Columbus, Council 3784 where he was still a current member.

Charlie has held many elected positions in Voorhees Township NJ including the township committee, Director of Finance, Director of Public Safety and also Treasurer.

Over the years he was employed by many different companies including R.C.A; he worked as a management consultant for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell; he was an Adjunct Instructor at Rutgers University in Camden NJ; handled manager contracts for Auerbach Corporation; a Controller for Jersey Shore Medical Center; a Financial Representative for the NJ Hospital Association; worked as a Controller/Assistant Administrator as well as the Acting Administrator for the Betty Bacharach Rehabilitation Hospital; was an elected associate of the  Smithsonian Institute; an Associate Administrator/Finance of the Hamilton Hospital; Director of Finance and Administrator at the  Lutheran Home of Moorestown; Director of Finance at the Lutheran Social Ministry of NJ; a Substitute Teacher for Mercer County and an Assistant Instructor at the Ewing Computer Center. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Friday March 11, 2022 starting promptly at 12:00PM at the Brigadier William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown NJ 08562. Please meet at the cemetery entrance by 11:45AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project at PO Box 75817, Topeka KS 66675 would be appreciated.
